How Procalculo Prosis is using data visualisation to help the Bogota Chambers of Commerce improve the business environment in the country’s capital cityBackgroundProcalculo Prosis is one of Columbia’s leading geographic information solutions (GIS) providers. It was founded in 1968 and its main goal has been to help its clients make strategic decisions based on accurate insight. Its expertise in the use of data visualisation software ensures it can meet its clients’ geographic information needs. One of Procalculo Prosis’ clients is the Bogota Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce was set up to improve quality of life and the business climate. It helps companies to start up and ensure that the employment opportunities created are sustainable by supporting business growth. At the same time the Chamber promotes social responsibility and encourages better working relationships between local authorities, employers and citizens. Getting startedThe Chamber wanted to use GIS and data presentation to help it understand and respond to a number of issues. These included: urban land usage, monitoring the construction in infrastructure and high informal business and labour rates. It had previously used static data in the form of databases and recognised that geographic information could be used to generate and disseminate information across a number of areas covering business confidence, quality of life, entrepreneurship and land use. It could also be used to monitor public sector management in the areas of: mobility, safety, infrastructure projects, finance and investment and connectivity. Procalculo Prosis helped The Chamber to get the most out of InstantAtlas to meet its data presentation requirements. Meeting the needThe Chamber is now producing dynamic online reports to analyse information on business, the economy, quality of life, entrepreneurship, safety, and land use. It is also being used by the Chamber to disseminate information such as the business census for towns like Kennedy, Engativa, Los Martires and in the municipalities of Zipaquira and Soacha. There is a wide range of individuals who see the benefit of these reports. Employers, union representatives, business associations, officials of the national and local government, as well as of departments and municipalities are just some of them. The information is also of use to Universities, research institutes and experts in the areas of the city and the regional development. |
Future developmentsThe Chamber of Commerce is looking at creating a dynamic consultancy system based on the business census in the towns of Kennedy, Engativá, Martyrs and the municipalities of Zipaquira and Soacha. This would use InstantAtlas amongst other GIS solutions to present data. Key benefits
