We have provided some recent Election Mapping examples below. They use a number of different InstantAtlas outputs including static profile reports and dynamic reports based on different InstantAtlas Templates. Scale: National US Purpose: The US Congressional Election Atlas shows the results of the House of Representatives race of the 111th Congressional Elections, which occurred simultaneously with the 2008 Presidential Election (Obama v McCain). The interactive report displays the winning political party and elected Representative for each Congressional District. Scale: National US Purpose: The US Presidential Election Atlas shows the results of national presidential elections in 2000, 2004 and 2008. It allows you to compare these results at two different geographic levels – Congressional Districts and States – with both maps being synchronised. The report offers the end-user a wide range of potential visual analysis capabilities. Filter the data to a State and compare voting behaviour at different geographic levels to understand sub-State patterns. Or time-slice the data to compare voting behaviour at district level across the three most recent elections. Scale: Local Purpose: This interactive report was used to present live election results on the council website within minutes of the results being made available. Scale: Local Purpose: Sefton Council used InstantAtlas to present their results in interactive form for their May 2008 local election. For each Ward they presented the Winning Party, number of eligible voters, number of votes cast, % turnout and number of spoilt ballots. Voting patterns for each candidate were presented in both vote counts and as a percentage bar with the ability to appoint multiple representatives per Ward. Scale: National Purpose: An electoral and socio-political report have been built for a subset (Scotland) of UK Westminster Constituencies. It presents a range of electoral and political statistics for visual analysis and reporting purposes. It demonstrates how you can (1) present election results (2) support analytical operations such as exploring differential turn-out rates, (3) compare voting behaviour with socio-economic patterns like deprivation levels and (4) use it as an online, visual campaigning tool to, for example, highlight MP expenses and attendance records. Scale: Local Purpose: Bournemouth Council used InstantAtlas to present their results in interactive form for their May 2007 local election. For each Ward they presented the Winning Party, the number of eligible voters, the number of votes cast, and the % turnout. Voting patterns for each candidate were presented in both vote counts and as a percentage bar with the ability to appoint multiple representatives per Ward. Three Wards were represented by a political party ‘mix’ and were left unshaded. The remainder were shaded according to traditional party colours. InstantAtlas Template: Area Profile |

Scale: Local Purpose: Western Isles Council used InstantAtlas to present an interactive map-based view of their 1997 Local Election for their public web site. It presents the results by candidate, the stage at which they were elected, and their political parties. The mix of elected parties per Ward means they made a decision not to shade the map, merely use it for area selection purposes. InstantAtlas Template: Area Profile |
