InstantAtlas Desktop Edition 5.1.0 - Release Notes
InstantAtlas Desktop Edition 5.1.0 was released 16/07/08.
Enhancements
Language features:
- The installer can be run in English, French, German or Spanish
- Version 5.1.0 templates are multilingual. This means they can be published in English, French, German or Spanish. Template properties (config.xml and template.xml) and stylesheet descriptions (default.css) will be in the published language.
- Language packs now exist for the software user interface in US English, French, German and Spanish. They affect user interface text in the Publisher, Designer and Style Editor.
- Getting Started Guides (PDF) now exist in English, French, German and Spanish
Additional features:
- A new template, the Double Map Time Series template, is included in the software and available for you to trial. To find out more about this template please contact sales@geowise.co.uk.
- The Publisher has been enhanced to support the Double Map Time Series template
- A new Excel Data Manager add-in, v5.0.2, is included (see below)
Bug Fixes
- The Publisher 'data model' option now detects the vector type of the base geography map file (polygon, point or line)
- The Style Editor Find and Replace tool has been fixed
Installation
Simply double click on the installer file (.exe). You can choose a language for the installation. This dictates the language of the installer screens but also influences the files that will be put onto your computer. If you run a standard installation in French, German or Spanish the relevant language pack will automatically be installed. Note that a standard install will only install certain templates and language packs. If you wish to customise your installation choose an advanced install - this is an option you can pick during the installation process. You can modify your initial installation at any time using the Control Panel to find InstantAtlas Desktop Edition and clicking the Change option.
Changing the Software User Interface Language
When run, the InstantAtlas sofware will detect your operating system regional setting and use the language pack that matches this where possible. You can override this by adding a locale setting to the Publisher configuration file. For futher information please read the Publisher User Guide (PDF). You can find this by clicking the Start menu, InstantAtlas Desktop Edition, Documentation. Alternatively, you can find it in the documentation folder created during installation. The default location for this is C:\Program Files\GeoWise\InstantAtlas\documentation.
Template Backwards Compatibility
- Data files (XML) for old InstantAtlas reports will work with version 5.1.0 reports
- Applying a configuration file (config.xml) or stylesheet (default.css) from an older InstantAtlas report to a version 5.1.0 report is not supported. You will therefore need to recreate any design/style personalisation once you have published your version 5.1.0 report. In certain circumstances applying an old config.xml or default.css file may work. We recommend that you seek advice from the GeoWise User Support team.
New Excel Data Manager add-in
This is a file called IA Data Manager 5.0.2 (.xla) that comes with InstantAtlas 5.1.0. You need to enable the Excel Data Manager add-in in Excel. Once you have installed, please refer to the Getting Started guide (PDF) for instructions. You can find this by clicking the Start menu, InstantAtlas Desktop Edition, Documentation. Alternatively, you can find it in the documentation folder created during installation. The default location for this is C:\Program Files\GeoWise\InstantAtlas\documentation.
Changes are the following:
- You can now include associates and metadata properties in your Excel workbook even if working in a regional setting where the decimal separator is a comma (e.g. French, German, Spanish)
- You can now use date-specific metadata properties in the Metadata worksheet (e.g. if you are using the Funnel Plot template and want to have more than one date per indicator)
- The IA Metadata fuction no longer crashes if cells in row 3 of active datasheets are left blank

Check Your Software Version
- To check the version of your InstantAtlas Desktop Edition, start the Publisher and click the About option (bottom left)
- Template version numbers are visible on the "Choose your Template" screen of the Publisher
- To check the template version that was used to publish an InstantAtlas dynamic report, start the report, hold down Shift on your keyboard and click the InstantAtlas logo
