InstantAtlas solutions for Local Authorities

A Challenging Information Environment..

In 2009 the UK Cabinet Office suggested that the reform of public services needs to be underpinned by 'an information revolution' (Working Together - Public Services on Your Side, UK Cabinet Office, March 2009).  "..government has been too slow to make use of the enormous democratising power of information.  When we give people knowledge about their public services, we give them power to shape and even transform them."

More recently in July 2009 Steve Bundred, Chief Executive of the UK Audit Commission, said: "Giving decision makers the information they need will help councils make savings while improving services. This is all the more critical in recessionary times and some solutions have little or no extra cost." (Is there something I should know? , Audit Commission).

The Audit Commission offers guidance (see Section 12) on the significant role that evidence should play in policy and practice including the widespread adoption of the COUNT principle (collect evidence once and use it numerous times for different purposes). This puts a spotlight on effective information management and reporting for efficient service delivery and areas which will be audited through Key Lines of Enquiry.

InstantAtlas can help..

InstantAtlas Desktop is a low cost, ready-to-use tool that is currently enabling local authorities to make their information available through engaging reports, atlases and information dashboards. Outputs can target staff, members and citizens in way that is visually appealing, informative and in step with rising user expectations.

Our enterprise solution, InstantAtlas Server, allows authorities and partnerships to quickly set up and share a single common evidence base of local intelligence, often called a 'Local Information System' (LIS). It has been widely adopted across the UK public sector - see our Examples Page.

Our uses include online election results, Place Survey results, supporting our use of Experian MOSAIC and displaying small area statistics on deprivation and inequality." Adam Park, Research & Information (Planning & Transport, Bournemouth Borough Council).

Creating Ward-based Profile Reports for Councillors

Worcestershire Member Profiles

Worcestershire County Council have developed a rich set of Ward Profile reports aimed at elected members. They include sections on the relevant local councillor, frequently asked enquiries to their call centre, population, crime, economy, health, children, and place survey results. Read more about this on our Examples Page.

New National Place Survey Reports

We have taken the national results, published by CLG, and created a single report for both English Top Tier authorities and Lower Tier Authorities. Both are available from our dedicated Place Survey Results page
