Strategic Planning Initiative

Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority

In the context of promoting “Smarter Solutions for Crime Reduction”, the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority chose InstantAtlas to present a suite of interactive crime data analysis tools in September 2010.

These reports present over 70 indicators at a county level. Annual and 5-year average offense and arrest rates are compared across Illinois for major crime categories. Additional themes allow users to explore data and create maps presenting case filing rates, admissions to the Department of Corrections or to substance abuse treatment programs.

Using the single map report, users can view the data geographically and through time. Data can be filtered by region, judicial circuit or rural/urban county type.

The scatterplot profile allows the exploration of relationships between crime and outcome indicators, exposing major positive and negative data variances from the state norms in individual counties.
